Analysis of the match between Lincoln and Chelsea
Lincoln are enjoying an impressive run of form, going unbeaten in their last 10 matches across all competitions with 7 wins and 3 draws. At the LNER Stadium, they are equally strong, having avoided defeat in their last 7 home games (5 wins, 2 draws).
However, none of the opponents in that streak match the quality and class of Chelsea, the visitors they will face in the third round of the League Cup. Historically, the two sides have met seven times, with Chelsea dominating the head-to-head recordโ4 wins, 2 draws, and just 1 loss.
At present, though, Chelsea are struggling. Under manager Enzo Maresca, the Blues have lost twice and drawn once in their last three matches, hardly the ideal preparation for this trip. To make matters worse, they are missing key players due to injuries and suspensions. Their away form has also been inconsistent, with only 2 wins in their last 6 outings (1 draw, 3 defeats).
A long and demanding season seems to have taken its toll on the reigning FIFA Club World Cup champions. As a result, their visit to Lincolnโs LNER Stadium could prove far more difficult than expected, with Chelsea likely having to work hard to secure a place in the fourth round.
