Analysis of the match between United and Chelsea
Before the 197th Manchester derby last weekend, United found themselves above City in the Premier League table for the first time since 2020. However, the โRed Devilsโ were completely outclassed and fell to a 0โ3 defeat at the Etihad.
Since manager Amorim took charge ten months ago, United have collected just 31 points from 31 league games (8 wins, 7 draws, 16 defeats) โ the worst record among the 17 teams in the league over that period. With only 4 points from their opening 4 matches, this is also the clubโs poorest start to a Premier League campaign since 1992/93. Under heavy pressure, Amorim โ who owns the lowest win rate (36.17%) of any post-WWII United manager โ remains adamant that he will not change his philosophy, a stance many see as a key factor in their decline.
Although United have managed just 2 wins in their last 11 meetings with Chelsea in all competitions, they are unbeaten in 12 straight Premier League home games against the Blues (5 wins, 7 draws) since a 0โ1 loss in May 2013. Chelseaโs win rate at Old Trafford (18% โ 6/33) is also their lowest at any ground they have visited at least ten times.
Even so, Chelsea remain unbeaten in the league this season (2 wins, 2 draws), alongside Liverpool and Crystal Palace. The downside for Marescaโs men is their midweek exertions in the Champions League, where they were heavily beaten by Bayern.
