Analysis of the match between PSG and Angers
The 2024/25 season, stretched by PSG’s participation in the FIFA Club World Cup, has visibly affected their current form. Luis Enrique’s side have struggled to convince in their last three matches (1 win, 1 draw, 1 loss). After a 0-3 defeat to Chelsea in the 2025 Club World Cup final, PSG began the new campaign with the UEFA Super Cup against Tottenham.
Down 0-2 until the 85th minute, they staged a dramatic comeback to force penalties. Thanks to goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier’s brilliance, PSG lifted the trophy — though Enrique himself admitted the team hardly deserved it.
Fatigue, stress, and exhaustion were evident against Spurs. Without Joao Mendes, the midfield lacked both energy and creativity. A trip to Nantes showed similar weaknesses, but unlike Tottenham, Nantes could not punish them, and PSG still claimed victory.
Fortunately, just when a boost is needed most, PSG now welcome Angers at Parc des Princes. This is a historically favorable matchup for the champions. Angers were poor away from home at the end of last season, managing only one win while losing five of their last six on the road.
Even though Angers are enjoying strong form with four straight wins across competitions, it will be extremely difficult for them to avoid defeat against the Ligue 1 holders in Paris. However, with PSG still not fully “warmed up,” a dominant victory may not be guaranteed.
