Analysis of the match between Atl. Madrid and Elche
Atletico Madrid suffered a surprising defeat in the opening round of La Liga 2025/26, falling to Espanyol away. The capital club even took the lead in the first half through Julian Alvarez, but lapses in concentration late in the second half allowed the Catalan side to score twice and snatch the win.
Returning to home soil this weekend, Atletico are eager to secure their first victory of the season. Coach Diego Simeone recently stated that he will field his strongest team against Elche to claim all three points, and the circumstances give him reason to be confident.
First, Atletico enjoy a strong home advantage. They have won all four of their most recent home matches across official competitions, scoring at least three goals in each game.
Second, history favors the Madrid side. In 13 previous meetings between the two teams, Atletico have dominated with 11 wins, one draw, and only one defeat. At home, they have won all six encounters against Elche, a record that should boost the playersโ confidence heading into the match.
Elche, on the other hand, have shown inconsistent form recently, winning just three of their last eight games. On the road, they have managed only four victories in their last 12 away matches.
Overall, as a newly promoted side, Elche lack the quality to challenge Atletico, especially with the home crowd at the Metropolitano behind the capital club.
